Start Your Day Out Slow

turtle.jpgDo you ever feel like the world is moving way too fast. Like everything’s going a million miles per hour and you’re just trying to keep up? Do you get into your office with that feeling of anticipation that there’s so much to get done and not enough time to do it? That’s how I’ve been feeling lately. On one hand, I feel so blessed and thankful for all that’s happening with Cinematic Studios. We’re working on exciting projects. New and wonderful services are coming down the pike. We’re making great business connections and relationships. Our team is filling out. We’re on a roll. But subsequently, I have that feeling of being overwhelmed. There’s only so much I can do as president, executive producer, creative director, editor, shooter, dad, husband, etc.

So, lately I’ve decided to force myself to slow down. Every morning, when I get in the office, instead of bee-lining straight to my email in-box (as I usually did), now I plop down on the sofa, close my eyes, take a deep breath, say a little prayer, then read a morning devotional (one designed for men on the go. :-)   I find even these few, short minutes can make a world of difference.

I encourage you busy entrepreneurs and small business owners out there to do the same. Find something to do that forces you to slow down before you speed up. Your mind will be clearer, your ideas fresher, and your body healthier. Don’t worry, the blogs, e-mails, and to do piles will still be there when you’re done. But hopefully, if you’ve used that time to reflect on the truly important things in life, they won’t seem as daunting.
